The Stylus Epic Limited
Compact Camera from Olympus

Since it was launched in 1991, the Olympus Infinity Stylus Series of ultracompact, high-performance cameras, has been a sales phenomenon. To date over 10 million have been sold worldwide.

To celebrate this milestone, Olympus is pleased to introduce the Infinity Stylus Epic Limited. Only 20,000 units of the commemorative Stylus Epic Limited will be available.

The Stylus Epic Limited has a lustrous Starry Night appearance, a deeper shade of the metallic-black color that was developed in 1997 for the Stylus Epic DLX. This limited edition camera is specially packaged with a leather case and strap in a beautiful keepsake box.

With its large F2.8 aperture, this 35mm lens offers great shooting and creative possibilities. In addition to being able to work in relatively low-lighting conditions, photographers can capture the nuances of the mood created by ambient light. This extraordinary lens also incorporates an aspherical lens element that ensures a high-resolution image.

The high-precision 414-step AF system delivers sharp focusing at every point -- from macro shots at only 1.1 feet from the subject to the infinity setting. The intelligent flash systemís state-of-the-art technologies include a soft flash capability which will automatically fire in fluorescent or other artificial light as well as in low-light. The ultracompact design has been achieved without compromising performance, easy operation or reliability. A high-magnification real-image viewfinder simplifies composition, while the all-weather casing offers extra protection outdoors. The Stylus Epic Limited also has the touches that will re-affirm international acclaim for the Stylus design. Not only does the limited edition retain the seriesí sophisticated good looks and responsive handling, but it has the added elegance of the unique Starry Night finish. MAIN FEATURES Compact, Lightweight and Stylish The flowing contours create a sophisticated look, and this elegance is enhanced by a sliding lens barrier that covers the flash on the front of the camera when it is closed. Easily portable, the ultracompact Stylus Epic Limited measures 4.3" (W) x 2.3" (H) x 1.5" (D) and weighs only 4.7 ounces. Lustrous Starry Night Finish Finished in a new shade of metallic black, the Epic Limited is more stylish than ever. Many other Stylus Series cameras have been available in a distinctive champagne-gold version as well as black. Now, with the lustrous new look of the limited edition, the internationally acclaimed Stylus design is suited to a wider range of tastes. High-Resolution 35 mm F2.8 Lens The F2.8 lens extends the range of creative possibilities well beyond the capabilities of conventional compact cameras. Even in relatively dim light indoors or at dusk, the large aperture lets the photographer make the most of available light and capture the nuances of the mood. The optical configuration has four elements in four groups and uses an aspherical lens to deliver high-quality images. High-Magnification Real-Image Viewfinder With its high magnification of 0.45X, the real-image viewfinder provides a bright clear image. High-Precision AF System Utilizing a three-point focusing system with 414 steps, the AF system provides the high levels of accuracy needed to optimize the shallow depth of field created by the large-aperture lens. Intelligent Variable-Power Flash System To ensure life-like, high-quality results, the Intelligent Variable-Power Flash System developed for the Stylus Epic Limited fires automatically in a wide range of conditions. The Auto mode triggers the flash in dim light and backlight situations—for example, when sunlight is filtered through trees—while the soft flash capability prevents over-exposure. With its Auto Color Balancing Flash, the system also detects the wavelength of fluorescent or other artificial lighting, and will automatically fire the flash, thereby providing natural-looking pictures that have an ideal color balance free from an unnatural cast.

Making it easy to take great flash pictures, the Intelligent Variable-Power Flash System has six flash modes.

  • Auto
To ensure that the illumination and colors are natural, the flash fires automatically when fluorescent or other artificial light is detected as well as in low-light and backlighting.
  • Red-Eye Reducing
The red-eye effect—a common problem with flash portraits—is reduced by a series of pre-flashes emitted before the main flash fires. (This mode is identical to the Auto mode in all other respects.)
  • Fill-in
The flash always fires in this mode, eliminating the shadows that can be caused by strong sunlight.
  • Flash Off

The flash does not fire in this mode. It is ideal for capturing a natural ambiance or when flash photography is prohibited.
  • Night Scene
The intensity of the flash is determined by the foreground, while the length of the exposure is set according to the backdrop. Slowing the shutter speed to as long as 4 seconds, this mode captures both the subject in the foreground and the night-time scenery.
  • Red-Eye Reducing Night Scene
This mode reduces the red-eye effect in pictures taken in the Night Scene mode. (Except for the addition of a series of pre-flashes, it is identical to the Night Scene mode.) All-Weather, No-Worry Casing The all-weather casing protects against a sudden shower or splashing. Meeting IEC grade 4 standards for "splash-proof", the design offers extra reassurance on a rainy day, or on a ski slope. Mid-Roll Switchable Panorama At the flick of a switch, the Stylus Epic Limited lets you capture the beauty of nature in panorama-format pictures. Even in the moddle of a roll, youíre ready for wide-format opportunities whenever they arise. Quartz Date Imprinting There is no need to forget when a photo was taken. The Epic Limited is equipped with a quartz date option, allowing the date or time to be imprinted on the photo. Wide-Ranging Accessories The Stylus Epic Limited is sold with a leather case and leather strap and comes in a striking gold keepsake box. Available as an option, the RC-200 remote control is also weatherproof, and is designed for easy replacement of the CR1220 battery. OTHER FEATURES
  • Auto Macro
Close-up shots can be taken from close as 14 inches.
  • Optional Remote Control
The remote control enables you to trigger the shutter from a distance of up to 16 feet.
  • Spot Mode AE
This mode ensures accurate focusing and exposure for the main subject, regardless of the surrounding lighting conditions. The suggested list price of the Stylus Epic Limited is $273.00.
