Olympus Announces Digital Passport/ID System

Melville, NY - Olympus America announced today at PMA the Olympus TruePrintTM Digital Passport/ID Solution ID-200. The Olympus Digital Passport/ID Solution provides photo-realistic results in an instant. Simply frame the subject with the template provided on the camera LCD; let your customer select the exact image to be printed; and print directly from the re-usable SmartMedia card. In about 90 seconds, a finished set of two passport size photos are ready to be handed to your customer. No wet chemicals or need for a print dryer. It's quick, easy, and efficient. Customers will no longer be forced to choose from one or two bad shots for their 10-year passport photos - the case with traditional analog print processes. Also, Olympus' print quality is greatly improved over other models.

The Olympus Digital Passport/ID solution combines the Olympus C-3030 Passport Version digital camera; an 8MB Olympus SmartMedia card with included passport template (extra cards are available); and the Olympus P-200 Passport Version portable dye-sublimation printer for photo quality true-color prints. Since the C-3030 is digital, multiple shots can be taken with the camera and previewed on the camera's built-in LCD screen or a TV monitor using the included video out cable that comes with the camera. Customers can view the images before printing the photo, so only the best shots are printed saving time and consumables. Two photos can be printed on a single sheet for passport photos or four on a sheet for photo ID shots. The P-200 printer can be used with the included AC adapter or an optional rechargeable battery for portability.

"Passport and ID photos are a growing market - over 7 million U.S. passports were issued last year. Many retailers providing passport/ID photo services are looking to switch over to a digital system in order to provide better customer satisfaction," stated Olympus New Business Development Manager George Tun. "Our TruePrint ID-200 system offers great value with all the digital advantages to those retailers."

The Olympus Digital Passport/ID Solution package costs about 30% less than the average digital solution currently in the market. And at two prints a day (at a $7.00 per sheet retail average), it pays for itself in less then four months. The Olympus Digital Passport/ID Solution will be available end of March 2002 for $1,499 MSRP. Additional SmartMedia cards with passport template and P-200 passport paper kits are also available.
