Olympus D1000 Digital Voice Recorder Wins Coveted "Mobility Award"

Olympus America Inc., Digital & Imaging Systems Group, the leading consumer electronics manufacturer, today announced that the Olympus D1000 Voice Recorder with IBM® ViaVoice™ Transcription has won the 1999 Mobility Award for "Best Accessory."

The 1999 Mobility Awards were presented to the companies with the top mobile computing and data communications products of 1998 at the fifth annual Mobile Insights MI99 conference, February 21- 23, 1999, in Palm Springs. The Mobility Awards Committee, consisting of 40 top analysts and members of the press, chose the winners of this year's Mobility Awards by voting on an online ballot. This unbiased committee spent time researching the products and services.

"The Mobility Awards have become a symbol of excellence and achievement in the mobile industry for mobile computing and data communications products," said Dr. J. Gerry Purdy, president and CEO of Mobile Insights, Inc. "The Mobility Awards Committee had a tough job this year because they had to choose nominees and winners from over 250 nominations."

The D1000 Digital Voice Recorder allows users to convert recorded speech to text on the PC without dictating directly into the computer. The compact D1000 records anywhere, anytime and then allows the user to convert his or her voice to text by simply inserting the D1000's Miniature Card into the PCMCIA slot of a laptop computer (with the help of the included PCMCIA adapter) or through an optional card reader for desktops.

"We are honored to win the prestigious Mobility Award for the D1000," said Keith Swiderski, product manager for Olympus America, Inc. "The D1000 is a valuable tool to help mobile users effectively utilize down time by speaking their thoughts into a digital recorder, then having those thoughts transcribed into text at their convenience."

The Olympus D1000 Digital Voice Recorder has won numerous awards, including Popular Mechanics Magazine's Editor's Choice (January 1999) and PC Computing's 1998 Most Valuable Product (MVP) Award as the best Mobile Office product of the year (November 1998).
