Olympus Zooms Into Premium 2004 Grand Prix of Canada SponsorshipMontreal, May 28, 2004 - Recognizing the significance of the Grand Prix of Canada (GPC) as one of the country's most exciting and photographable sporting events, Olympus America has committed to a premium sponsorship for the 2004 edition of the race to be held in Montreal, June 11- 13.
The GPC package builds on Olympus' existing relationship with the Scuderia Ferrari Formula One Racing Team as one of its six primary sponsors, and is designed specifically to boost the Olympus presence at the race in Canada. The company has aligned itself with Ferrari and the GPC because, like the world's premiere race cars, Olympus cameras are highly tuned technical machines that live up to their credo - "Designed To Do More".
"The Grand Prix of Canada is one of the premiere stops on the F1 circuit for drivers and fans alike," said Tommy Nagashima, Assistant Group Vice President, Olympus America. "It is one of Canada's greatest events to photograph and Olympus is proud to be working together with GPC and Ferrari to make this year's event as memorable as the year before."
"We are pleased to welcome Olympus as a prestigious new sponsor for our event," said Normand Legault, President of the Grand Prix of Canada. "In addition to its great reputation for high-quality products that incorporate sophisticated technology, Olympus is involved with one of the best racing teams on the F1 circuit. The company's newly announced association with the Canadian Grand Prix is an indication of the popularity enjoyed by our high caliber event."
In keeping with the company's "Designed to Do More" mission, Olympus' sponsorship of the GPC shifts into high gear with a wide-ranging package that includes increased exposure around the race venue and more involvement with consumers and pro photographers who travel the Grand Prix circuit.
As part of its commitment to the digital SLR and professional market, the company will be hosting the 400 plus media contingency at the Olympus Halte Media Centre which will feature support for professional photographers including batteries, technical assistance and equipment loans. Olympus will be featuring its all digital E-1 system, which was introduced last year and marked the company's re-entry into the professional photography market.
The Olympus brand will be prominent on a number of fronts at the race including Olympus trackside advertising strategically positioned on fencing lining the Gilles Villeneuve circuit providing prominent visibility and exposure during the television broadcasts of the event.
Event organizers are also erecting two Olympus Photo Towers allowing race fans to take elevated shots of all the action with their own cameras or test driving some of Olympus' consumer digital cameras.
"This sponsorship is a great addition to our Ferrari program and one of our most electrifying marketing efforts in Canada to date," said Nagashima. "Nothing makes for better photography than capturing the fiery red Ferraris of Schumacher and Barrichello competing for supremacy on the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve."
