Olympus DS-4000 Digital Voice Recorder Delivers Breakthrough Ease-of-Use and Functionality- True Digital Slide Switch for Smooth Control of Playback and Recording, Convenient USB Cradle Battery Charger, Direct-to-Computer Recording, Expandable Memory
Melville, New York, June 1, 2004 - Olympus America makes another bold move in the digital voice recorder market with the introduction of the new DS-4000, an extremely flexible world-class audio recording device with several Olympus "firsts" that can dramatically enhance the workflow of all professional users who demand top recording quality and simple, reliable functionality. These Olympus innovations are housed in an attractive, ultra-compact metal body with a brushed silver finish that exhibits a sophisticated, all-business style and fits comfortably in the hand or pocket.
"When we designed the DS-4000, we thought of everything that would make the user experience as simple and effortless as possible," said Andy Flagg, senior national sales manager for Olympus America. "From the true slide switch for easy control with just your thumb, to the docking station that both uploads and downloads audio and recharges the battery, to our direct-to-computer recording capability, the DS-4000 is intuitive to operate and becomes a natural part of your workflow in no time."
Designed to Do More
Perhaps the most innovative aspect of the DS-4000 is its "true slide switch" located below the microphone. It's contoured to the thumb for smooth control of record, stop, play and review functions all with the same switch. This model is as equally high-powered as it is versatile with the ability to record 11 hours and five minutes of audio with the included 32MB xD-Picture CardTM, the same memory media used in Olympus Digital Cameras (memory expandable with cards of greater capacity).
Here's how it works: Back at the PC or Mac, when the DS-4000 is placed upright in, or lying flat on, the USB docking station, it enables quick downloading or uploading of voice files to and from the computer. The DS-4000 is capable of recording direct to a personal computer without taking up any of the recorder's internal memory, as long as the USB cable is attached.
The DS-4000 uses the quality DSS sound recording format, and once files are stored on the device it can automatically compress or extend the number of files within the seven folders, up to 199 per folder. With its compact size, 4.43" (L) x 0.67" (H) x 1.97" (W), the DS-4000 is an ideal traveling companion.
Designed for You
When the DS-4000 is placed upright in the docking station, it conveniently charges the recorder's rechargeable battery if the PC is on or AC adapter is connected. On long days outside of the office that outlast the battery, professionals can quickly pop in cost-effective regular AAA batteries and keep on recording. For frequent travelers who want to save space in their carry-on luggage there is no need to take the docking station on the road, as the DS-4000 comes equipped with a USB cable that allows for the direct transfer of voice files to and from the device to the PC.
The DS-4000 features a large, backlit, easy-to-read LCD screen that reveals file information, recording time and events on the front of the recorder and has a speaker for audio playback on the back. The included user-friendly DSS Player Pro Release 4 software facilitates the archiving, editing and further processing of the recordings.
Programmable buttons that speed up reaction time increase the DS-4000's flexibility and reliability. Instead of having more buttons than necessary, the DS-4000 allows users to program the functions they use the most onto either the A or B buttons. The functions include: Index Mark, Record Mode, Microphone Sensitivity, Voice Activation, Display, and more.
The DS-4000 can be operated in hands-free mode with the optional foot switch RS-25. This helps professionals like radiologists and pathologists, who need to keep their hands free while dictating.
The DS-4000 will be available from July 2004 exclusively from a network of professional authorized digital dictation specialists. It comes with 32MB xD-Picture Card, DSS Player Pro Release 4 Software (dictation module), USB cable and docking station, Ni-MH rechargeable battery pack, AC adapter, and carrying case as standard accessories.
