Kaiser Installs Olympus High-Volume Analyzers For General Chemistry Testing

General Chemistry Systems Streamline Workflow and Processing for Kaiser's Labs

Melville, NY, January 18, 2005 - Kaiser Permanente, America's largest HMO, recently installed four Olympus AU5431® systems in its new 50,000 square foot Richmond, CA, facility. The new equipment will perform more than 12 million chemistry tests during the first year of operation.

Kaiser, a Broadlane member, handles three-quarters of all routine chemistry testing for affiliated hospitals in northern California, including at least 19 major medical centers and 50 clinics throughout the region. Kaiser's Regional Laboratory is the largest privately held lab, outside of corporate-owned laboratories, in the United States, and its automated chemistry department is where the highest volume of testing is performed.

"We're proud to have been chosen as a high-quality, cost-effective solution for Kaiser Permanente," said Stephen Wasserman, Group Vice President, Olympus Diagnostic Systems Group. "Kaiser can now standardize workflow and processing using the most advanced chemistry systems on the market, and will be able to achieve its objectives cost-effectively with Olympus."

The Olympus analyzers were selected because of their speed, accuracy, reliability, cost effectiveness, user-friendly operation and the support services offered. "Selection and implementation of the Olympus analyzers has helped us attain our goals of increased productivity and efficiency, effective cost management, increased flexibility (open channels), and sufficient capacity to support our organizational growth," said Carolyn Hoke, PhD, CLS, Regional Laboratory Manager for Kaiser's Chemistry Department, "while achieving our quality objectives. Most important, our staff is very happy with the new instruments."
