Washington, DC, May 21 , 2007- Olympus, a precision technology leader, creating innovative opto-digital solutions in healthcare, life science and consumer electronics products , today presented a broad range of innovative GI products and services at Digestive Disease Week, Washington Convention Center, May 19-24. Key products and services include the novel EnteroPro small bowel solution; the world's first endoscope platform featuring high-definition and Narrow Band Imaging™ (NBI) technologies; a new ERCP benchmarking service; a broadened EUS product line; the first and only hemostatic grasper in the United States; the world's first comprehensive networked archival and data management solution for visible light video; a Web-based clinical information management system; customized financial solutions; and Olympus service and repair.

“We are excited to present Olympus' latest solutions designed to enhance observation, efficiency and functionality in gastroenterology,” stated Rick Harbuck, group vice president of Olympus America Medical Systems Group. “Our increasing portfolio of innovative products and services further enables us to provide our customers with total GI solutions across the continuum of care, while strengthening our leadership position in this field.”

Increasing Efficiencies for Small Bowel Procedures: EnteroPro – Olympus' Total Small Bowel Solution
The newly launched “EnteroPro” brand consists of the Single Balloon Enteroscope (SBE) system, a broad range of EndoTherapy devices and EndoCapsule, Olympus' capsule endoscope system, which is currently undergoing 510(k) review by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

The SBE system is designed to provide physicians with increased efficiencies for the examination and treatment of the small bowel while allowing physicians and hospitals to maintain high-quality patient care.

Enhancing Observation and Efficiency: EVIS EXERA II™ 180 platform of Gastroscopes and Colonoscopes
The EVIS EXERA II 180 series is the world's first endoscope platform to deliver both high-definition (HDTV) and Narrow Band Imaging™ (NBI) technologies, providing enhanced observation capabilities, as well as improved efficiency and patient turnaround time.

NBI is a real-time, on-demand technology that Olympus has developed to enhance visualization of the capillary network and mucosal morphology during endoscopic observation of the gastrointestinal tract. NBI works by altering the white light source to only include specific bands known to take advantage of the scattering and absorption properties of human tissue.

Measuring Quality in ERCP: EndoSite® Consulting Services' ERCP - Quality Network Initiative
The ERCP – Quality Network (ERCP-QN) is a new Web-based initiative that measures the quality of ERCP procedures and is offered by EndoSite Consulting Services, Olympus' comprehensive collection of professional services for hospital GI labs, endoscopic ambulatory surgery centers (EASCs) and office endoscopy practices.

ERCP-QN allows interested physicians and healthcare facilities to subscribe to a secure network and to enter data for ERCP procedures they perform. Subscribers can benchmark their performance by viewing reports for doctors showing various ERCP quality indicators and compare those results to others in the network. Via unique secure log-in, each subscriber can enter and view data any time of the day and week. ERCP-QN was developed by EndoSite in partnership with Peter Cotton, MD, professor of medicine, Medical University of South Carolina.

Enhancing Endoscopic Ultrasound: UM-DG20-31R probe and NA-200H-8022 aspiration needle
Olympus' new ultrasound probe ( UM-DG20-31R) has been designed to meet the unique demands of intraductal ultrasonography (IDUS). It is the first ultrasound probe to offer both a guidewire port and dual plane reconstruction (DPR) functionality, making IDUS easier and more efficient. The guidewire port facilitates a transpapillary approach to the bile and pancreatic duct to make IDUS procedures easier to perform. DPR functionality, which allows simultaneous views of the radial and linear planes, makes it easier to interpret ultrasound images and define the penetration and longitudinal borders of the region of interest. With the probe's linear scanning range reaching up to 40 mm, the entire biliary or pancreatic duct can be scanned in just a few passes, which means examinations can be performed more rapidly.

The EZ Shot single-use aspiration needle ( NA-200H-8022) provides excellent puncture capability for tissue sampling under endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) guidance in EUS-guided fine needle aspiration (FNA). The needle has been upgraded with features designed to optimize operation. A repositioning needle echo-enhanced region improves visibility of the needle on EUS images. An improved stylet design reduces resistance between the needle and the stylet. The EZ Shot is offered in one ready-to-use package with everything the user needs, including the preassembled, presterilzed needle and a 20 cm3 (20 ml) variable vacuum-locking syringe and stopcock. The EZ Shot can be used with all Olympus ultrasound endoscopes designed for EUS-guided FNA.

Introducing Innovation, Precision and Efficiency in ERCP and Hemostasis: Olympus EndoTherapy™
The latest addition to Olympus' expanding lineup of V-System™ ERCP devices is the next generation of the wire-guided LithoCrushV™ mechanical lithotriptor, which is easier than ever to assemble and use for catching and crushing biliary stones larger than 15 mm. Physicians can rotate and ratchet baskets for better traction and optimal placement. Ports in the basket allow easy injection of a contrast medium, while a knob enables physicians to apply additional torque for handling stones. The disposable FlowerBasketV™ and TetraCatchV™ retrieval baskets are designed for versatile retrieval and precise release of stones larger than 12 mm.

Rounding out Olympus' stone management solution is the Multi-3V™ extraction balloon, which features premeasured syringes for precise, symmetrical inflation to three sizes (8.5 mm, 11.5 mm and 15 mm) for excellent device control and efficient extraction of stones smaller than 12 mm.

The Coagrasper is the first and only hemostatic grasper in the United States. Its innovative design combines the mechanical benefits of a hemoclip with the coagulation benefits of a thermal probe to simply and effectively stop bleeding in the GI tract. Additionally, the Coagrasper's ability to target bleeding areas allows the device to treat a wide range of indications. This unique device rotates to precisely approach the vessel, opens and closes to confirm the correct position, and grasps the damaged tissue to lift it away from the healthy mucosa. The specialized cup design directs the coagulation energy to the isolated area and reduces the thermal effect to surrounding areas.

Improving Medical Video Document Management: VaultStream™
VaultStream is a comprehensive networked solution for storage, management, recall, sharing and presentation of visible light video, suitable for gastrointestinal, general and any other medical procedures utilizing video. VaultStream's enterprise-wide accessibility frees up procedure rooms and improves patient workflow by allowing physicians to consult patients anywhere they have computer access. VaultStream's intelligent classification and retrieval system allows healthcare facilities to archive cases to meet ongoing educational or research needs. Multiple users can work with VaultStream from various locations using nStream™, Image Stream Medical's digital capture device, and Video Information Portal™ (VIP), a Web-based software for viewing historical procedures.

Enhancing Efficiency of Patient Care: EndoWorks® Clinical Information Management System
EndoWorks is an integrated browser-based information management solution that spans all stages of patient care, increasing productivity and efficiency. The soon to be released version of this product, EndoWorks 8.0, seamlessly integrates with Olympus' High-Definition (HD) video technology found in its surgical and medical scopes, which are compatible with the CV-180 Universal Platform. EndoWorks 8.0 also provides advanced security features, including configurable system access and integration with external directories that enable users to utilize a single password for multiple application access.
