New Olympus VN-Series Digital Voice Recorders Work Twice as Hard and Capture Twice the Audio of Predecessors
CENTER VALLEY, Pa, August 25, 2008 – Olympus, the leading manufacturer of voice recorders, today announces the VN-5000 and VN-5200 PC, the next generation of VN-Series digital audio devices with twice the storage capacity of previous models. The VN-5200 PC has the distinction of being the industry’s most affordable Windows Media Audio (WMA) digital voice recorder at $59.99; and the VN-5000 can record an impressive 300 hours of audio. Both recorders share 512MB of internal memory and offer unique features:
- 300 hours of recording time;
- Enhanced HQ & SP sound quality; and
- 39 hours of battery life.
- 221 hours of recording time;
- USB 2.0 high-speed connectivity to your PC;
- USB Mass Storage Class Device;
- HQ, SP, & LP WMA monaural recording; and
- 30 hours of battery life.
Their compact, ergonomic bodies fit comfortably in one’s hand and slide easily into a pocket. Equipped with a large LCD screen, multiple recording modes and an extended battery life, the new VN-Series devices are ideal for capturing lectures, interviews, random thoughts or a child’s first words.
“The last VN-Series recorders doubled the recording time of their predecessors and we’ve increased it substantially again,” said Andy Flagg, director, Sales and Marketing, Olympus Imaging America Inc. “Whether you use them to record your favorite candidate’s speech or a class lecture, the VN-5000 and VN-5200PC deliver superior sound quality and great ease of use with double the capacity of earlier models, so you can capture more of what you need.”
Spend Quality Time with These Recorders
The new VN-Series devices boast several high-quality audio recording modes. Designed with three recording modes that enable recording times of various lengths, users can capture remarkable audio using the HQ mode or the SP and LP modes for extended recording. The VN-5200 PC uses WMA for recording and playback, making it the first WMA-based digital audio recorder in the VN-Series.
The VN-Series also features the Variable Control Voice Actuator (VCVA) function, extending recording time by recording only when the microphone senses sound at the preset level. This function is a significant time-saver, reducing the need to fast-forward past pauses in conversation.
Audio Made For Sharing
The new VN-5200 PC incorporates a PC Link, enabling users to transfer audio files to almost any PC/MAC using the included USB cable. It is not necessary to download any software to the PC to use this function. This feature enables users to connect with speed and ease, and once downloaded, files can be archived or emailed to friends and family.
Users of the new VN-Series digital recorders will welcome the control provided by the various playback settings. The Index Mark setting allows them to pinpoint specific pieces of the audio per file to simplify future searches. The VN-5200 PC can hold up to 16 Index Marks per file, while the VN-5000 can hold 10 per file. After a recording is captured, the slow playback option allows recordings to be played at 25 percent slower than real time, assuring more efficient note taking or transcription. The fast playback is 50 percent faster than real time, allowing users to skip ahead to essential segments.
The VN-5000 comes equipped with an alarm playback mode, allowing you to manage your time appropriately and play the selected audio.
Stylish & Functional Design
Given their thin, lightweight, compact design, the VN-Series digital audio devices make ideal travel companions. Both devices have large, easy-to-read LCD screens that reveal file information, recording time and events.
A speaker for audio playback is located on the back of each recorder. Both models are equipped with easy-to-reach buttons allowing the user to play, stop, fast-forward and rewind with a simple touch of a figure. The record and erase buttons are positioned individually for easy access and to eliminate confusion when handling.
The VN-5000 makes a fashion statement with a silver gray body, while the VN-5200 PC boasts a sleek brown design.
The VN-Series digital audio devices deliver an easy-to-use interface that enables users to accurately organize digital files with unparalleled organization for meetings, dates and reminders. The VN-5000 has four folders (each holds 100 files) and the VN-5200 PC has five folders (each holds 200 files). The VN-5200 PC also includes multi-language support in English, French and Spanish.
Lasting Power, Lasting Value
The VN-Series digital devices allow for extended continuous operation (39 hours for the VN-5000 and 30 hours for the VN-5200 PC) made possible by the long battery life of two AAA batteries. The new devices also feature a one-year warranty.
The VN-5000 will be available in September 2008.
The VN-5200 PC will be available in November 2008.
