Olympus Digital Cameras Sweep the Awards

COMDEX BOOTH #L-5835 LVCC, Las Vegas, NV—Olympus America Inc., Digital & Imaging Systems Group, the leading digital camera manufacturer, announced today that its new C-2500L and C-2000 digital cameras have quickly won numerous awards in the only few months that they began shipping. Continuing in the Olympus award-winning tradition, the C-2500L, which began shipping two weeks ago, has already won Popular Science's coveted 1999 "Best of What's New" Award as well as the prestigious Editor's Choice Award from Digital Camera Magazine.

The new C-2000 Zoom won industry awards from Wired—Best Business Class Digital Camera, Mobile Computing—First Class Award, American Photo—Editor's Choice Photo Gear for 1999, PC Magazine—Editors' Choice Award, Macworld—4 Mice, PC World—Best Buy, Computer Shopper—Top 100 Products of the Year Award, etown.com—1999 Product of the Year Best Digital Camera, Presentations—Five Star Rating, Micro Publishing News—Four and a Half Star Rating, and Canadian Computer Wholesaler—Editor's Choice Award.

David Carnoy, etown.com, said about the C-2000 Zoom, "If you're looking in the $799 range, you should step up to the C-2000 Zoom. As of this moment, this camera is superior to anything in that price range. The C-2000 Zoom's color was true to life, and the camera was able to pick up details in shadows and difficult-to-photograph textures, such as a chain-link fence."

When asked about the C-2500L, David MacNeill, Editor-in-Chief of Digital Camera Magazine said, "As our reviewer Arthur Bleich said of this groundbreaking product - 'This 3X optical zoom digicam not only talks the talk, it walks the walk, taking two types of memory cards and producing professional results without being bogged down by useless bells and whistles.' With its category smashing 2.5 megapixel resolution and 2/3" CCD imager, unique internal color processing, and sturdy construction, this true on the market. The Olympus C-2500L is the highest performance digicam under $5000."

The C-2500L, the world's first 2.5 megapixel (1712 X 1368) filmless digital camera in the consumer marketplace (sub $1500 retail price), features Olympus' revolutionary "TruePic" technology for professional photographic quality. The C-2500L is Olympus' most significant filmless digital camera developed for professional digital photographers and computer power users alike. New features of the C-2500L include an exclusive 2.5 megapixel CCD built into an all-in-one SLR camera design with a 3X, 9.2 to 28mm aspheric glass zoom lens (36-110mm equivalency in 35mm photography), built-in flash, hot-shoe, full exposure control, specially-made FL-40 dedicated digital flash, and other professional features.

The C-2000 Zoom, the world's first 2.1 Megapixel zoom lens filmless digital camera, offers a 2.1 Megapixel resolution (1600 x 1200), 3X optical zoom lens, infrared remote control with fully automatic controls for novice users and powerful manual controls any photo enthusiast would appreciate, packaged in a compact ergonomically designed point & shoot body. Featuring both fully automatic and manual modes of most all selections, this camera is both a convenience camera and a photo enthusiast's tool. Manual controls extend into areas other digital cameras have yet to approach in this price range, including the choice of 100, 200 or 400 ISO film speed equivalency.
