Quantitative Microscopy Workshop Sponsored by Olympus Focuses on Whole Slide Imaging, Image Analysis and Stereology
CENTER VALLEY, Pa., August 29, 2009 – Olympus is sponsoring an exciting new workshop for individuals interested in making meaningful quantitative measurements from digital images captured with light microscopes or whole slide scanners. The workshop, which will be held September 8-12 in Seattle, includes five full days of lectures, interactive sessions and hands-on experience.
The 2009 Workshop on Quantitative Microscopy includes an in-depth review of the techniques and principles used in quantitative digital image analysis and stereology. In it, students will be introduced to processes that automate both image analysis and stereology - processes that dramatically improve efficiency and accuracy. A NanoZoomer® Digital Pathology System and various Olympus microscopes will be on hand for use by students.
In addition to participating in workshops and hearing presentations by leaders in the field, participants will have the opportunity to work directly with the faculty to develop protocols for analysis of their own digital images generated during the course.
The workshop will be held at the University of Washington School of Medicine at South Lake Union, 815 Mercer Avenue, Seattle, and reflects the close cooperation of the University’s Comparative Pathology Program, Department of Comparative Medicine, along with its Center for Lung Biology, Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, Department of Medicine. In addition to Olympus, other participants include Visiopharm A/S, The Journal of Histochemistry and Cytochemistry, and The Histochemical Society.
