Olympus and the USTA
Our sponsorship of world-class professional tennis provides an exceptional opportunity to engage with people interested in active, healthy lifestyles.
We have seen that commitments to both photography and a healthy lifestyle are important to tennis players and fans worldwide; this is important because while you may be most familiar with our cameras, Olympus is also a world leader in research and clinical microscopes and diagnostic testing. We created the first camera that lets doctors look inside the human body, and we continue to introduce life-altering imaging technologies for healthcare professionals.
So, the connections between this sport, its far-reaching audience and what the Olympus brand stands for are very strong.
As such, in February 2008, Olympus embarked on a six-year sponsorship of the US Open and US Open Series, representing the most comprehensive sponsorship in the company’s history in the Americas and builds on the relationship between Olympus, the USTA and the US Open, which began in 2003.
Olympus is a major sponsor of the US Open and the title sponsor of the Olympus US Open Series which links 10 summer tournaments to the US Open, creating a cohesive, six-week summer tennis season in North America. Event sites include Los Angeles, Indianapolis, Toronto, Stanford, Washington D.C., Montreal, Cincinnati, and New Haven. In 2009, the Olympus US Open Series tournaments and the US Open combined generated more than 1.6 million attendees.
In 2009 at the Olympus US Open Series tournaments and the US Open, Olympus featured the E-System digital SLR camera platform, designed with revolutionary features that expand the frontiers of digital photography, as well as the Stylus Tough series, designed for durability with its shockproof, waterproof, freezeproof and crushproof capabilities. Activities including autograph sessions with Olympus-sponsored tennis players Sam Querrey and John Isner, photo contests and product demonstrations were also available for the enjoyment of visiting tennis fans.
