In his 2007 US Open debut he defeated the 26th-seeded player, firing 34 aces along the way. He proceeded to win his second round match before losing the 3rd round to the top-seeded Roger Federer. Isner aced Federer 18 times, finishing with 66 aces for the tournament. Isner attended the University of Georgia and led his team to the 2007 NCAA Tennis Championships.
