Aspect Ratio: The ratio of horizontal pixels to vertical pixels
in a display device. Most normal TVs and monitors are in a 4 : 3 aspect
ratio. Widescreen TVs and monitors are typically in a 16 : 9 aspect ratio,
the same as movie theatres.
Bass Boost: Deepened bass that lets you feel more of the action.
BBE Sound: Audio processing technology used in the FMD-700 Eye-Trek
that corrects distortion and phase delay in the audio signal. This gives
the audio a great "live presence." BBE is a registered trademark
of BBE Sound Incorporated.
Component signal (Y Cb Cr): A connection / cabling standard for
carrying a video signal. Component cabling carries separates the signal
into luminance and two color differentials allowing for the cleanest possible
picture.
Composite: The connection / cabling standard for carrying an NTSC
video signal. Composite cabling carries all video information (luminance,
chrominance, synchronizing, and blanking) at the same time on the same
cable.
Delta Pattern: The pattern in which the pixels on a LCD screen
are arranged. Behind the pixels is a black matrix. If the pixels were
lined up horizontally and vertically, the viewer may notice a faint black
grid on the screen. To prevent this, the pixels are staggered. This is
known as a Delta Pattern.
Face Mounted Display(FMD): Head Mounted Displays often must be
attached using a headband due to their bulky size and weight. The Eye-Trek
is designed to be so small and lightweight that it can be comfortably
mounted on the face, just like a pair of glasses. With this, it is known
as a Face Mounted Display.
FOV (Field of View): The horizontal and vertical angle at which
an image is viewed. In the case of the Eye-Trek, it is the FOV angle of
30 degrees that creates the image of a 52-inch screen from 6.5 feet away.
Free Shaped Prism: Highly developed optical technology used in
the Eye-Trek Face Mounted Displays. The prism successfully creates a large
image from a small screen while keeping it clear and virtually distortion
free. See Innovations that are Exclusive to Olympus for more detailed
information.
Head Mounted Display: Display mounted on the head, usually using
a combination of a headband and a brow pad.
High Eye Point Design: Innovative design of the Eye-Trek that
allows for a gap between the Eye-Trek and one's eyes. This allows the
unit to be worn comfortably with a pair of glasses.
High-Performance Optical Filter: Reduces visibility of black pixel
matrix for a smooth, sharp image.
Letterbox: A picture with the wider dimensions of a movie theater
screen as opposed to the more square standard television screen.
LCD: Liquid Crystal Display. A screen that uses color changing,
voltage sensitive, liquid crystals to display an image. LCD's are typically
flat paneled and often used for portable applications.
NTSC: Stands for National Television Standards Committee. NTSC
is typically used to describe the video standard in the United States
and Japan.
Optical Filter: The process of using optics to "shift"
the pixels on a LCD screen onto the black matrix behind them. This, along
with a Delta Pattern arrangement of the pixels, greatly reduces the coarseness
of the image.
OSR: Optical Super Resolution. This is the highly advanced optical
processing system that is used in the FMD-700 Eye-Trek. It effectively
quadruples the resolution if an image through high-speed pixel shifting
and digital processing. See Innovations that are Exclusive to Olympus
for more detailed information.
Pixels: Picture Elements. The tiny dots of color and light that
compose a digital image.
Refresh Rate: The amount of times a display renews itself in one
second.
Resolution: The fineness of detail that can be distinguished in
an image, as on a video display terminal. It is usually indicated by a
vertical / horizontal pixel count (ex. 640x480).
See Around Design: Innovative design of the Eye-Trek that allows
one to maintain their peripheral vision while remaining engaged in the
audio-visual experience. One can eliminate this by using the optional
side and full visors, resulting in a more immersive, theatre-like experience.
SRS Sound: Sound Retrieval System three-dimensional audio used
in the FMD 250W Eye-Trek. The technology retrieves the spatial information
from any stereo recording and restores the original three-dimensional
sound field. Created by SRS Labs, Inc.
S-Video: A connection / cabling standard for carrying an NTSC
video signal. S-Video cabling keeps the luminance and chrominance video
signals separate, allowing for a cleaner overall picture.
Surround Sound: Sound technology that distinguishes sounds not
only from left to right, but also from front to back.
VGA: Stands for video graphics array. VGA is a graphic display
system for PCs. Most modern monitors and video cards correspond to the
15-pin VGA standard.
