Where is the Reference Manual for the Olympus Ferrari AZ-1 Digital Model 2004?
The CAMEDIA Master 4.2 packaged with the camera provides a full Reference Manual in PDF format. Adobe Acrobat, which is provided on the CD, is necessary to view the PDF manual. The printed manual that is included with the camera is the "Instruction Manual".
There are no directional arrow buttons, like on most other Olympus Digital Cameras. How do I navigate through the menus?
The control dial must be used to scroll up and down through the menu options, and use the Back/Next button on the side of the camera to back out of a menu option. Use the OK button to select a menu option.
What is the purpose of the W and T buttons?
Pressing the W, or Wide Zoom button allows you to zoom out from a subject, causing it to appear further away. Pressing the T, or Telephoto Zoom button, will allow you to zoom in to a subject, causing it to appear closer.
What is Digital Zoom?
Digital Zoom is an electronic enlargement of part of an image, making it appear closer and larger, simulating telephoto zoom. The image is actually being cropped, resulting in loss of surrounding pixels and resolution. By combining the Ferrari AZ-1ís 3x optical zoom with the digital zoom, zoom magnification can be increased to approximately 8x. Digital Zoom can be turned on using the DIGITAL ZOOM menu option. If DIGITAL ZOOM is set to ON, a red area appears on the zoom indicator. When the limit of the optical zoom is reached, the digital zoom is enabled.
I want to connect my camera to the computer to download my images, but I cannot locate the USB port on the camera. Where is it located?
The USB port is not located on the camera, but is located on the docking station. The camera must be mounted on the docking station, and the USB cable must be connected to both the docking station and computer. Detailed instructions for connecting the docking station to the computer, and downloading images from the Olympus Ferrari AZ-1 Digital Model 2004 are located on the CD in the "Reference Manual" section under "Transferring images to a computer" located on Page 171.
I only see two menu options (FORMAT and SETUP) in Playback mode. Why donít I see all of the available menu options as specified in the manual?
There are no pictures on your xD-PictureTM card, or it is not inserted into the camera. Insert an xD-PictureTM card containing images, and the full list of menu options will become available.
Do I need a special USB cable to connect my camera to my computer?

What battery is used in the Olympus Ferrari AZ-1 Digital Model 2004?
The Olympus Ferrari AZ-1 Digital Model 2004 uses the LI-20B Lithium Ion battery pack.
The LI-20B Lithium Ion battery pack is rechargeable, but there was no battery charger included with my camera. How can I recharge my battery?
The LI-20B Lithium Ion battery pack is recharged in the cameraís battery compartment when the camera is connected to the docking station. This is the first Olympus model with a battery that will charge while in the camera.
How long does the battery take to be fully charged?
The battery will be fully charged after approximately 2 hours of charging. The battery indicator blinks on the LCD during charging. When charging has finished, the battery indicator will stop blinking and the LCD monitor will turn off.
I have recharged the battery, and inserted it into the camera. When I press the power button, the camera does not turn on. What could be wrong?
The battery may be improperly inserted. When inserting the battery the camera should be held with the LCD facing down and the lens facing upward. Open the battery compartment door on the bottom of the camera, and insert the LI-20B Lithium Ion battery pack with the sticker side facing upward.

How does the memory gauge work?
The memory gauge lights up when the camera is storing a still picture you have just taken on the card. The memory gauge indication changes as shown below depending on the shooting status.
If the memory gauge is fully lit, wait a few seconds until it goes off to take the next picture.
I would like to take successive pictures. How can I accomplish this?
While in shooting mode, turn on the Super High record mode function from the menu. By focusing on the subject, and holding down the shutter button, this will allow up to three pictures to be taken in sequence before being written to the xD Picture Card.
Can I turn off sound recording while recording a movie?
No. The sound is recorded automatically and cannot be turned off.
How can I record sound with a still picture while I am taking the picture?
To record sound with a still image, select the microphone icon in the menu and turn it ON. Once the microphone is turned on, recording starts approximately .5 seconds after the shutter is released and lasts for about 4 seconds.
How can I record sound with a still picture in playback mode?
Sound can be added to a still image that you have already shot. You can also rerecord over the sound that has already been recorded. Recording time per image is approximately 4 seconds. Play back the image you want to add sound to, and then turn on the microphone from the menu. When START is pressed, sound recording will begin.
How many albums can I register? How many images can be registered in each album?
You can classify images you have taken into albums and arrange them on the card. Twelve albums are available and 100 images can be registered in each album.
How can I create an album in the camera?
In playback mode, select ALBUM ENTRY from the menu. Use the control dial to toggle through the albums, and select OK to select desired album. To add only the current image, select THIS IMAGE. To add multiple images, select SEL. IMAGE and then use the control dial to toggle through the images. Us the OK button to select the images for the album. When all of the desired images have been selected, click the NEXT button on the side of the camera and select YES.
How can I view my album?
Images that have been registered to an album can be viewed by selecting the SEL.ALBUM menu option, and then selecting the album that you want to view. Once your album has been selected, press the MENU button, and the select the Playback menu option. In the playback menu, you can select NORMAL, FADER, SLIDE, or WINDOW, and then press START to begin the slideshow. Pressing the MENU button again will stop the slideshow.
Can an image be registered to more than one album at a time?
No. An image can only be registered to one album at a time. However, you can remove an image from an album, and then add it to another album. You can remove a single image from an album using the UNDO ENTRY function while viewing an image in an album on the LCD monitor, or you can remove all images from all albums using the UNDO ALL function.
Does the Olympus Ferrari AZ-1 have Macro and Super Macro mode?
Yes. The Ferrari AZ-1 has Macro and Super Macro mode. Macro mode is used when shooting a subject as close as 11.8" - 20.0". Super Macro mode is used for shooting a subject as close as approximately 3.2". Both can be accessed from the Scene Program menu.
What is the self-timer and how can I use it?
The self-timer allows you to take pictures of yourself. Stabilize the camera with a tripod when using this mode. The self-timer icon in the menu must be set to ON. When the shutter button is pressed, the red self-timer lamp on the front of the camera lights up for approximately 10 seconds, and then blinks for approximately two seconds before the picture is taken, giving the photographer time to get into the picture.
When would spot metering be useful?
Spot metering is useful when you do not want to let the brightness of the surrounding area affect the picture and is recommended for shooting a backlit subject.
How can I change features such as shutter sounds, beep volume, or time and date?
These features can be accessed from the SETUP menu while in shooting mode.
What is REC. VIEW?
You can select REC. VIEW from the SETUP menu while in shooting mode. If REC. VIEW is turned ON, then the picture you have just taken is displayed for about 3 seconds allowing a brief check of the picture you have just taken. If REC. VIEW is turned OFF, then the picture being recorded to the card is not displayed. This is useful when you want to compose your next shot using the monitor while the previous picture is being recorded.
What is PIXEL MAPPING?
The PIXEL MAPPING feature allows the camera to check and adjust the CCD and image processing functions. It is not necessary to operate this function frequently, and approximately once a year is recommended. After taking pictures or playing them back, wait for at least one minute before using the PIXEL MAPPING function to ensure that it operates correctly. Select PIXEL MAPPING from the SETUP menu while in shooting mode, and then select START. Wait until the progress bar is finished attempting to continue to use the camera.
How can I zoom in on an image in playback mode?
While reviewing your image in playback mode, you can zoom in on it by pressing the Zoom in (T-Telephoto) button. You can zoom in up to 4x in .5x step increments by pressing the Zoom in button. Press the Zoom Out (W-Wide) button once to return the image to normal size.
How can I displace the image in playback mode?
When zooming in on an image in playback mode, the image can be displaced horizontally (left or right) or vertically (up or down). Use the control dial to displace the image horizontally. To displace the picture vertically, press OK, and then rotate the control dial.
When I playback my images on the LCD, I would like to see details about the shooting situation such as resolution, white balance settings, date and time and file number. How can this be accomplished?
In playback mode, the INFO menu option from the SETUP menu must be turned ON. Detailed shooting information about the image will be displayed on the monitor for 3 seconds.
How can I display several images at the same time on the LCD monitor?
Using the index display function, multiple images can be displayed. The 9-frame index screen is displayed by default, but you can also select the number of images on an index screen to 4, 16 or 25 by selecting the index icon from the SETUP menu, and then selecting the appropriate number of index images that you want to display.

What is DPOF?
DPOF is a standard format used to record automatic print information from digital cameras. You can print out pictures automatically, at home or in a print shop, by storing such data as which pictures you wish to print and the number of prints on a card.
What is Print Reservation?
Print reservation allows you to save printing data (the number of prints and the date/time information) with the pictures stored on the card. With print reservation, you can print out pictures easily either at home using a personal DPOF-compatible printer or at a print shop that supports DPOF.
Is there an A/C adapter available for my Olympus Ferrari AZ-1 Digital Model 2004?

How should I clean the camera?
The LCD monitor, camera body and media card can be cleaned by wiping the camera gently with the cleaning cloth provided with the camera. If there is excess dirt on the camera, soak a soft cloth in mild soapy water and wring well. Wipe the camera with the damp cloth and then dry it with a dry cloth. To clean the lens, blow dust off the lens with a commercially available blower, then wipe gently with a lens cleaner.
