Dye-Sublimation or Inkjet? Dye-sublimation printers are said by many to deliver the closest quality to a conventional print, but recent advancements in inkjet technology have enabled the process to significantly close the gap. However, dye-sub printers "sublimate" or sink the colored dyes into the paper, thereby mixing evenly with the other colors and producing a continuous tone much like a regular print. Advantages of this process are that the prints come out extremely detailed and smooth and don't fade as quickly as many inkjet prints do, so they last longer. But much like deciding which is better - chocolate or vanilla - the true test of which is better between dye-sub and inkjet is how the results appeal to you.
