The following are tips provided by professional photographer
Jeff Dorgay that will hopefully help you get the most out of your
digital photography experience:
1. Take two of everything (three if you have the
space). I can't tell you how many times I have been on location
over the years and something fails, whether it's batteries, cords,
1GB microdrives, etc. Fortunately, an Olympus camera has never let
me down, but I always take a spare for piece of mind.
2. Be patient and shoot as close to the end of
the day as possible. For me, whether I'm taking pictures of a bride
or a Ferrari, there is that last 10 minutes of the day that the
light is just magic and it takes discipline to be prepared for that
perfect moment.
3. Buy a copy of Nik Color Efex Pro® and Sharpener
Pro®. These are the absolute best add-ons to Photoshop®
and will give your shots that extra bit of color and contrast that
you just can't get any other way. They are expensive, but they eclipse
anything I have ever worked with.
4. Trade in your laptop for one with a CD burner
and make backups while you are on location. Make two while you are
at it and consider this your "film". While obvious, this
is another great piece of mind move.
