E-420 Quote MAR2008

"When the Olympus E-420 was announced a few weeks back, there was lots of talk from the company about how compact and light their latest entry-level 10.0 megapixel DSLR was...

As it turns out though, they weren't kidding. In its current group of competitors, if the Nikon D60 is a sedan, the Canon XSi an SUV, and the Pentax K200D a school bus, the E-420's like a Mini Cooper."

Digital Photography Review states: "To start with there's no doubt that the E-3 is, without a shadow of a doubt the best Four-Thirds camera ever made and a more than worthy", according to Digital Photography Review.

Olympus Zuiko 14-42mm F3.5-5.6 ED

Digital Photography Review: "The Digital Zuiko 14-42mm F3.5-5.6 ED delivers on that promise as a kit lens which, for its angle of view and aperture range, is smaller than anything else on the market. The good news is that it's also optically as good as anything else in its class; resolution is consistently high, chromatic aberration generally low, and distortion and falloff similar to other kit lenses."

All I know is that when you're shooting, the autofocus is virtually invisible, and that's the way we all want it, right?

The body as well as the grip and SWD-series lenses are fully splashproof, capable of tolerating a thundershower, not merely a light drizzle. The E-3 is built for long-term use; the shutter mechanism has been tested for reliability during a minimum of 150,000 cycles.

E-3 Quote FEB2008

What really impressed me was the E-3's in-body mechanical image stabilization system. This is something that every manufacturer except Canon and Nikon is now offering in their DSLR bodies, and many feel it will not be too long before the big two will have to join in this bandwagon. Is it a gimmick? Is it as good as in-lens stabilization? In my view, it is just as good, if not better. I found I could easily handhold the E-3 with a 12-60mm zoom lens at ¼ second exposure and get sharp images. I was even able to get reasonably sharp images at half-second exposures. Obviously the beauty of in-body stabilization is that it works with every lens.

E-3 Quote JAN2008

The E-3's built-in dust-reduction system uses a supersonic wave filter to eliminate specks in captures. It can even remove spots that usually cannot be removed through vibration or discharging with static electricity. The system really works.

E-510 Quote JUL2007

The E-510 is a very quick dSLR, equal (or very close) to any digital camera in its price class. Even with the Supersonic Wave Filter (dust reduction) function at start-up the E-510 is ready to go in about 1.5 seconds. AF lock (in good light with the 14-42 zoom) is about ⅓ of a second from scratch and essentially real time with pre-focus (using the optical viewfinder). Shutter lag in Live View mode is about 1 second. Shot to shot times (even in RAW mode) are noticeably quicker than average - about ½ a second for a full resolution JPEG with no flash. Write to card times are also a bit faster than average.
