Stop Seeing the Red
The effect known as "red-eye" occurs when the light emitted from the flash bounces off the back of the retina. The red color is picked up from the blood vessels behind the eyes and displayed in the resulting image.

To reduce this effect you can use the Red-Eye Fix feature in your camera, rather than trying to manually do it with an image-editing program such as OLYMPUS Master or Adobe® Photoshop® after downloading it to your computer first. To do so, simply follow these easy steps:

  • Turn the mode dial to Playback Mode (green arrow) and display the image with the red-eye.
  • Press the OK/Menu button.
  • Using the arrow pad on the back of the camera, navigate to Mode Menu/Edit/Red-Eye Fix.
  • Press the right arrow key until New File displays on the LCD. Select New File.
  • Press the OK/Menu button again.
  • After the "Busy" bar displays, you will see a screen with the option to Save or Cancel the correction.
  • If the option "Go" is displayed, press the OK\Menu button. This saves a corrected version of the image.
  • If the option "CANCEL" is displayed, then the camera was unable to adequately fix the effect. Press the left arrow key to exit.
Depending on different variables, the Red-Eye Fix may not be able to correct the effect on a picture. In such an instance, you can easily download the image to a personal computer and utilize the OLYMPUS Master software (included with your camera) to reduce the red-eye (in the Edit menu). It even lets you remove green or blue, which often can be found in pictures featuring animals.
