Included USB Docking Station Ensures Fast and Easy Downloading of Files to PC or Mac
Melville, New York, August 1, 2003 - Olympus America, the leading manufacturer of digital voice recorders, today introduced the DS-660 Digital Voice Recorder with 11 hours of high-quality DSS audio recording capability and an included USB docking station for quick file transfer to either PC or Mac.
The smooth, silver styling of the DS-660 and its compact and lightweight design make it the ideal travel companion that slips easily into a shirt front pocket. Measuring a mere 4.25" x 1.63" x 0.8" (H x W x D) and only 85 grams (including two triple A batteries), the attractive and ergonomic DS-660 fits perfectly in the hand of the on-the-go professional.
Like its predecessor the DS-330, the DS-660 Digital Voice Recorder comes with a USB docking station. Simply record high-quality DSS voice files with the DS-660 and then place it on top of the included docking station and press a button to begin downloading hours of audio.
As its name indicates, the DS-660 provides 660 minutes of recording time with 32MB of built-in flash memory. Sound quality has also been enhanced and can be made even clearer with the Olympus innovative noise canceling technology, which removes unwanted hiss and background noise. To suit various sound conditions, users can also adjust the microphone's sensitivity. The recorder can be viewed in low-light situations, such as at a lecture hall or during presentations, thanks to the easy-to-read backlit Liquid Crystal Display.
The DS-660 has five separate file folders with 199 files in each folder to allow users to organize nearly 1,000 files according to personalized subjects, such as "work," "personal," and "to do." A special scheduling folder helps to sort recordings by date, allowing users to recall the day's meetings, expenses and reminders for easy retrieval. Up to 20 alarms can also be programmed for meetings, dates, show reminders or wake-up calls. The user simply dictates reminders into the DS-660, such as "Time to type the memo!" and assigns a time for this message to go off like an alarm clock alarm.
The DS-660 is perfectly suited to meet varying professional needs. When connected to a computer, the DS-660 even functions as a USB microphone and speaker because of USB audio class compatibility. Voice files can be easily included into emails or forwarded to others for transcription. The optional AS-3000 Transcription Kit (DSS Player Pro transcription module with footswitch and headset) can further streamline this process. The DS-660 is also compatible with IBM's voice recognition software, Via Voice.
Users can store up to 660 minutes of continuous recording in Long Play mode (5 hours & 10 minutes in Standard Play). These extended recording times are made possible with the high-compression DSS (Digital Speech Standard) file format. After capture, recordings can be overwritten, erased, moved between folders or have additional sections inserted into them at any point. The DS-660 also allows multiple index marks to be set per message - both during recording and playback - so that specific sections of individual dictations are always quickly located. The individual files can be played back at three different speeds: normal, fast or slow - through either the built-in speaker or included earphones.
The Variable Control Voice Actuator (VCVA) ensures that recording begins only when the sound is sensed. And the security lock function prevents accidental deletion of sensitive files.
The DS-660 recorders will be available in August 2003.
