Olympus ALPHA ORganizerTM Receives "Innovation of the Year" Recognition From
Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons
New York, NY, September 30, 2004 - Olympus, a precision technology leader in designing and delivering innovative solutions in healthcare and consumer electronics worldwide, today announced that its unique organizational tool, the ALPHA ORganizer was recognized as an "Innovation of the Year" at the 13th International Congress of the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons. The ALPHA ORganizer was designed by surgeons for surgeons to make the selection of lapaorscopic hand instruments inside the sterile field easier and faster.
"The ALPHA ORganizer provides the right instrument, in the right hands, in record time," said John Cifarelli, Vice President, General Manager of Surgical Products of Olympus America Inc. "We're grateful to the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons for acknowledging its value in the O.R.".
During endoscopic procedures, the lighting in the operating room is typically low and all of the hand instruments are similar, but their tips are different. Under these circumstances, even an experienced scrub tech often finds it difficult to provide the correct instrument. The ALPHA ORganizer features a front nameplate with names and images that clearly mark the precise location for up to eight hand instruments for easy recognition of the surgeon and/or procedure for which the organizer has been designed.
Lightweight, autoclavable and durable, the ALPHA ORganizer is also easy to assemble for convenient cleaning and setup, and its top can serve as an additional tray.
The ALPHA ORganizer is a component of the ALPHA O.R.TM by Olympus, a totally customized operating room offering the highest level of patient care through seamless, build-on-demand (BOD) integration of surgical and communication devices. By providing real time-saving and cost-saving benefits such as quicker O.R. set-up and by enabling superior imaging for quicker visualization, treatment and reporting, ALPHA O.R. reduces stress for surgeons, nurses and support staff.
The Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons is a 6,000 member, international organization which offers a unique, multi-disciplinary approach to the study and education of minimally invasive surgery by bringing together different medical specialties who use the techniques and tools of minimally invasive surgery.
The Society's publications include the quarterly, peer-reviewed, interdisciplinary JSLS, Journal of the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons; and Laparoscopy, a semi-annual publication with information on advances, new developments and surgical techniques.
