In February 2008, Olympus embarked on a six-year sponsorship of the US Open and US Open Series, representing the most comprehensive sponsorship in the company’s history in the Americas. This sponsorship with the USTA, which provides a platform to leverage the Olympus brand throughout the world, represents a significant and far-reaching expansion of the current relationship between Olympus America, the USTA and the US Open, which began in 2003.

Additionally -- in May 2008 -- the USTA, ESPN and Tennis Channel announced a groundbreaking television and multi-platform partnership creating a summer-long “Open Season” for tennis featuring more than 400 national television hours for the US Open and the Olympus US Open Series -- an increase of nearly 100 hours. Commencing in 2009, ESPN and Tennis Channel will join CBS, and become the US Open cable television broadcasters for the first time.

As a major sponsor of the US Open and now the premier sponsor of the Olympus US Open Series, Olympus will feature the E-System, its digital SLR camera platform, designed with revolutionary features that expand the frontiers of digital photography.

The Olympus US Open Series brings together the 10 tournaments in North America during the summer tennis season immediately preceding the US Open. Event sites include Los Angeles, Indianapolis, Toronto, Stanford, Washington D.C., Montreal, Cincinnati, and New Haven. Since its inception in 2004, the Series has doubled television viewership and increased event attendance. In total, 2007 US Open Series events, including the US Open, generated a record of 1.7 million attendees, 121 million TV viewers in the U.S. alone.

Olympus has also signed rising tennis star John Isner to a multi-year agreement. Isner is the second tallest player on the ATP tour at 6’ 9’’ and, since turning professional less than a year ago, has reached the final of the Legg Mason Tennis Classic and won two rounds at the 2007 US Open. The four-time All-American at the University of Georgia will participate in Olympus’ activities to promote its brand, digital cameras and other consumer products related to its sponsorship of the Olympus US Open Series and the US Open.

“I am honored that Olympus chose me to be a part of its promotional plans for such prominent events as the Olympus US Open Series and US Open, given the influence and visibility of these tournaments to millions of fans worldwide,” says John Isner. “I couldn’t ask for a more prestigious opportunity at this early stage in my professional tennis career.”
