The new STructured ARchive (STAR) database replaces the previous Microsoft Access-style database. With an enhanced Windows® Explorer-type tree-like structure, images are easier to find. Related documents (Excel sheets, Word documents and reports, graphs, audio comments) can be saved in the same folders as images.

Using the Database Assistant, setting up a database is easy. In addition to the predefined fields, users can define additional fields and arrange them according to their needs. Images and related documents can be added to the database by dragging-and-dropping; alternatively, images can be automatically saved to a database during acquisition of a time-lapse series or automated process.

STAR databases can be queried in a variety of ways:
simple queries of one or more fields with logical Boolean strings and wildcards
free queries
SQL queries

Databases can be saved and/or backed up to a central networked server for access from multiple locations.

MicroSuite™ FIVE includes a tool for converting existing MicroSuite™ databases to the new STAR format.
