The Olympus VS120 virtual slide scanning system has earned three top awards at the second International Scanner Contest (ISC) in Berlin, Germany.
FLEXIBLE DESIGN
The VS120-S5 is a versatile microscope-based system. Olympus has combined the optical leadership experience obtained through many decades and an innovative digital engine to create a virtual slide system second to none. The VS120-S5 allows standard slides (five 1x3, or two 2x3) to be manually loaded, along with any associated meta-data. All system components are designed to interact seamlessly, producing a fully automated, high-speed scanning system with excellent flexibility and simple operation. With hundreds of Olympus virtual slide systems installed worldwide, the VS120-S5 continues to lead the way for advancements in virtual microscopy.
FAST HIGH DEFINITION SCANNING
With the VS120, users are seamlessly guided through the entire virtual slide acquisition process using an intuitive Scan wizard, where complete slide scanning can be set up with just 3 mouse clicks. Several pre-defined modes facilitate ease-of-use for entry-level users, while the advanced software puts experienced users in complete control of the entire scanning process. Therefore, different scan settings can be assigned to individual slides, saving significant scanning time, as well as offering the ability to only scan areas of interest, reducing data file sizes.
WIDE RANGE OF OBJECTIVES
The VS120 comes standard with Olympus UPLSAPO 2x, 10x, 20x and 40x objectives allowing the user to choose an objective most suitable for his or her research needs. Automatic specimen recognition limits scanning to the specimen area, with high-level color fidelity and image quality.
VIRTUAL Z
Multi-plane virtual slides can be produced by specifying attributes such as depth for multiple areas, range, number of planes and magnification. The virtual-Z scanning function allows the user to change the depth of the image simply by scrolling the mouse, making it easy to focus through the depth of any region of interest. Such functionality is particularly advantageous for viewing thicker specimens such as cell clusters or cranial nerves.
FAST DATA ACCESS
The optional, versatile Net Image Server SQL expands the VS120 scanner family with a specialized client server database, allowing users to manage any image in a simple and convenient way. This powerful tool enables scanned images to be automatically uploaded to the database, making them readily available for immediate remote access (with the right permission) and multiple keyword queries.
HIGH PERFORMANCE VIEWER
VS-Desktop, an optional software module allows you to review, edit and enhance images scanned by the VS120 Virtual Slide System. The software provides tools for various measurements, rotation, cropping and other advanced features. OlyVIA® is a free application program for viewing VS120 image files, and allows participation in conferences hosted by users with Net Imager Server SQL. MULTI-CHANNEL FLUORESCENCE
The VS120 can be extended to scan fluorescence samples. All of the VS120 fluorescence components are designed to interact seamlessly, producing a fully automated, high speed multi-channel fluorescence virtual slide system with excellent flexibility and simple operation.
