About Bacus Labratories, Inc.

Bacus Labs has been in business for over a decade, and continues to satisfy customers around the world who enjoy the best solutions for microscope imaging and virtual microscopy. We have always been and continue to be a leader and innovator in the field of virtual microscopy with products designed to benefit educators, researchers, and clinicians in a variety of different markets. Furthermore, our reputation for outstanding customer support and reliable products is second to none.

Virtual Microscopy

Virtual Microscopy is computer-based technology that offers the full range of traditional microscope functionality, and more. A virtual slide is a digitally captured glass slide which is comprised of high-resolution images. The convenience of a computer is then used to view, navigate, change magnification, and focus through the virtual slide with speed and ease. Viewing a virtual slide is spectacular! The capability now exists to see beyond the field of view of microscope oculars and utilize the virtual slide for a large variety of applications including:
  • Glass slide archival
  • Medical student education
  • Image analysis
  • Drug research and Discovery
  • Continuing education
  • Resident training

Bacus Laboratories pioneered virtual microscopy and as a result, all our products have been designed with virtual microscopy in mind. Our scanning systems, presently in use all over the world, have been developed to be user friendly, cost effective, innovative solutions.
  • The BLISS slide scanner utilizes the Olympus BX61 microscope and produces a high-resolution virtual slide from a highly configurable system. The BLISS is available for use with any objective up to 60x and can capture a Z-plane focus with nine planes available for view. The Z-plane focus emulates the fine focus wheel of a microscope within the virtual slide.

  • The NanoZoomer Digital Pathology System, manufactured by Hamamatsu, quickly delivers automatic, high throughput scanning with outstanding image quality! The NanoZoomer utilizes high precision technology, which gently lifts and transfers each slide into scanning position. With the click of a button up to 210 slides are automatically scanned at 20x or 40x using a 4096 x 64 pixel CCD continuous scan technology. The end result is an outstanding virtual slide in about 4 minutes at 20x!
* The Hamamatsu and Bacus products are for research purposes only.
