Olympus America Inc. is excited to offer an intensive 4-day Visiomorph and newCAST training in partnership with Visiopharm, the leading provider of advanced software for quantitative microscopy. This unique learning opportunity is intended for anyone who uses the Visiopharm software for image analysis and/or stereology applications. Participants can choose to attend one or both of the courses offered at Olympus America Inc. headquarters in Center Valley, Pennsylvania:
September 21-22, 2010: Visiomorph
September 23-24, 2010: newCAST
Students have the opportunity to learn from highly skilled and experienced Visiopharm staff members, and should expect a highly interactive course with time for open discussions (both inside and outside of designated class time). Specific training topics include:
Visiomorph (Image Analysis)
- Introduction to Image Analysis
- Pixels, color models/components, basic and advanced filters
- Overlays and Metadata
- Labels, masks, annotations, measures,

- Thresholding, phase analysis, K-Means clustering, Bayesian classifiers

newCAST (Stereology)
- Systematic Uniform Random Sampling
- Optical Disector/Fractionator
- Physical Disector/Fractionator
- Probes
- Counting Frame
- Line and point probes
- Local Probes: nucleator, rotator
- Global Spatial Sampling
Instructors:
Jakob Raundahl, Senior Application Scientist, Visiopharm. Jakob Raundahl holds a Ph.D. in computer science from University of Copenhagen. He has taught at various Visiopharm training courses and manages daily training of customers using the Visiopharm software.
Won Yung Choi, Senior Products Scientist, Visiopharm. Won Yung Choi received her Ph.D. and postdoctoral training in neuroscience from Columbia University. She currently works from Visiopharm’s New York City office and specializes in the demonstration and training of the newCAST stereology software.
Registration fee is $1,500 for 2-day course and $2,000 for 4-day course. This fee does not include travel and lodging. Complimentary continental breakfast, lunch and snacks will be provided daily for participants. Additionally, all instructional material will be provided.
