Olympus Sponsors Annual Photo Contest in Support of UN Millennium Development Goals
Picture This: We Can End Poverty. Working globally to achieve the Millennium Development Goals.

Acting on its global commitment to help all people achieve health and happiness in their lives by working as an integral member of society, Olympus proudly sponsored the United Nations Development Programme’s (UNDP’s) second annual PICTURE THIS photo contest. The contest challenged people around the world to capture inspirational work underway in developing and developed countries to achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), which are intended to eradicate extreme poverty by 2015.

More than 3,000 images were submitted for this year’s contest. Judges included UNDP Goodwill Ambassador and internationally-acclaimed actor Antonio Banderas and four photojournalists, including Olympus Visionary John Isaac. The public also voted online to select a People’s Choice award. The winning images portray ordinary people doing their best to better the world for themselves, their families and their communities.

Olympus Corporation has been active in working to achieve the MDGs since 2003, when it sponsored the photographic project “A Day in the Life of AFRICA,” whose main objectives were to increase awareness and fund education programs to alleviate the AIDS crisis in Africa.

Olympus’ Social IN management philosophy is based on the three “Ins” of Involvement, Insight and Inspiration, defining the relationship between the company and society.
